Rep. Devin Nunes raised nearly as much in the first quarter of this year than he did all of last year, the Washington Examiner reports.
The former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and front man in defense of President Donald Trump against the Russia probe raised $1.25 million in Q1 of this year, mostly through a grassroots campaign, the Examiner reports.
Nunes launched a direct-mail and digital fundraising campaign just last month, the Examiner reports.
A very good quarter would be upwards of $750,000, a number shattered by Nunes.
"It is impressive," a veteran Republican operative told the Examiner.
Nunes' first-quarter haul gives him a $4.5 million war chest to fend off any Democratic challengers in the conservative California district.
While Nunes has been constantly panned by Democrats and neutral observers over the investigation conducted by the House intel panel, he has become a hero to conservatives for his defense of Trump that culminated with the committee's announcement last month that it found no collusion with Russia.
Every rating system has Nunes' hold on California's 22nd district as "solid" or "safe" Republican.
