Democrats Dump 'Stimulus' Term, Replace It With 'Jobs'

By    |   Tuesday, 06 September 2011 03:16 PM EDT

Republicans have made hay over what they call the ineffectiveness of the $787 billion fiscal stimulus package that a Democratic Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed in 2009.

Now, perhaps in response, House Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, have jettisoned the word “stimulus” from their vocabularies, The Hill reports.

Although Democrats still are fighting for fiscal stimulus, they are now calling it a job-creation package rather than stimulus. The Democrats’ “Make it in America” program seeks to create jobs through higher infrastructure spending, financial assistance to struggling states and tax credits for businesses, all of which were part of the 2009 stimulus package.

But there’s no explicit mention of stimulus this time around.
