Dems Set to Turn Out the Lights When the Party’s Over Early

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee may have ripped a page from Willie Nelson’s songbook, if some Washington wags are to be believed. The fact that the committee moved its election night sentinel soiree up an hour is so it can turn out the lights early when the party’s over because of big losses to Republicans, according to Roll Call’s Heard on the Hill political blog. Not so, says a committee rep, explaining instead that the change is to accommodate speakers.

The committee announced Friday that it was changing the party time at the Liaison Hotel from 8 to 7 p.m., according to Heard on the Hill, which then speculated: “While the change may seem like no big deal, a Republican tipster tells HOH that the rumor is the change was made because if the Democrats lose too many seats early in the night, crestfallen partygoers would head home early.”

The blog quotes its tipster, whom it describes as a “smug source,” as saying, “They know it’s all going to be over by 9 p.m. for the Democrats, and they want to go home and pull the covers over their heads.”

Or, as Willie sings, in part:
