Democratic Ads Hit Republicans on Deportation Vote

By    |   Tuesday, 11 June 2013 12:13 PM EDT

Democrats are going after House Republican lawmakers who voted last week to end enforcement funding for President Barack Obama's initiative to halt deportations of DREAM Act immigrants who came to the United States illegally as children.

According to Politico, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is running radio spots taped in Spanish and featuring testimonies from some of the so-called DREAM-ers.

"The Republican Party insists that they have changed," says one ad targeting California Rep. Gary Miller. "But once again, House Republicans like Gary Miller have betrayed our community, rejecting President Obama's executive order that ended the deportation of DREAM Act-eligible young people."

Iowa Rep. Steve King, who introduced the defunding amendment, accused the president of acting in "a lawless fashion" by instructing U.S. officials not to deport a certain group of illegal immigrants. He called it the "political perversion of the rule of law" aimed at providing the young immigrants with "executive amnesty."

In addition to Miller, Politico reported that Democrats are also targeting GOP members Mike Coffman of Colorado, Blake Farenthold of Texas, John Kline of Minnesota, Joe Heck of Nevada, Buck McKeon of California, Erik Paulsen of Minnesota, Steve Pearce of New Mexico, and Frank Wolf of Virginia.
