House Democrats are quietly praying Republicans will force a vote on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act — because they believe it could help rocket them back to power next year.
Politico says under the Democrats' "dream scenario," Republicans would "muscle" their replacement healthcare through the House, only to "watch it die a long, painful death in the Senate."
And with question arising as to what healthcare protections might be lost under the GOP plan, Republicans who voted to tear apart the Affordable Care Act would be targeted in the 2018 midterms.
"I think the Republicans are playing Russian roulette with this vote," said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat.
"There's no question in competitive districts where you've got a potentially vulnerable Republican incumbent, this could make or break you."
