President Donald Trump on Tuesday bashed top Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi as he touted his plan to cut $15 billion in wasteful federal spending as a way of "getting our government back on track."
"For years, Democrats in Congress have depleted our military and busted our budgets on needless spending, and to what end?" Trump asked on Twitter. "No more."
Schumer, of New York, is the Senate minority leader, and Pelosi, who represents California, is the Democratic leader of the House.
Republican lawmakers last month proposed a bill that would cut $15.35 billion in unused, unnecessary spending from the federal budget through a special legislative tool called rescissions.
On a simple majority vote, the approach allows the Senate to take back or "rescind" funds Congress has already appropriated.
