In results that were nothing short of stunning to the GOP in Washington State’s most Republican district, Democrat Kim Schrier took the lead by 3 percentage points over GOP nominee Dino Rossi.
A New York Times/Siena College poll completed over the weekend showed physician Schrier edging former Sen. Rossi by 48 to 45 percent in the 8th District. The margin of error is +/-4.8 percent.
Rossi is easily as known as a sitting congressman, having lost two narrow races for governor and a bid for the U.S. Senate. The 8th District has been firmly in Republican hands since it was created in 1982.
Times/Siena’s findings represented a dramatic shift from one month ago, when an Elway poll gave Rossi a 10 percentage point lead following the confirmation battle over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
“The race has been back and forth, and is the most expensive congressional race in the country,” former State Republican Chairman Kirby Wilbur told Newsmax. “The hard left is outspending Dino by more than 2 to 1. I believe the voters in the 8th Congressional District will not be bought on Tuesday and Dino will win.”
