Republicans reportedly have a list of investigations they think Democrats will launch if they flip the House of Representatives in the upcoming 2018 midterm election, Axios reports.
A spreadsheet obtained by Axios has been “circulated through Republican circles on and off Capitol Hill,” and previews a list of potential probes, including James Comey’s firing, President Donald Trump’s tax returns, discussion of classified information at Mar-a-Lago, the U.S. hurricane response in Puerto Rico and White House security clearances, among others.
Democrats have already called for investigations on the list, but have been unable to move forward with most of them because of opposition from members of the Republican Party.
Democrats need to flip 24 seats to take control of the House, and should be able to pull off the feat according to several surveys released over the past few weeks.
Axios in its report said the White House would not be well prepared for the “onslaught.”
“Lawyers close to the White House tell me the Trump administration is nowhere near prepared for the investigatory onslaught that awaits them, and they consider it among the greatest threats to his presidency.”
