Dozens of Democratic House challengers have outraised their Republican opponents during the second fundraising quarter of this year, The Hill reports.
At least 50 Democratic challengers have raised more money than the Republican incumbents they are hoping to unseat. Twenty one have raised more than $1 million between April and June, including Texas candidate Mary Jennings Hegar, who is running against Rep. John Carter, R-Texas.
Only one Republican managed to raise more than a Democratic incumbent: John Chrin, who raised about $50,000 more than Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-Pa., whose district was recently redrawn.
California, with eight, has the most candidates who have outraised their GOP opponents, followed by Texas, with six, along with New York, New Jersey and Ohio. Five of those candidates in California are running for seats in districts won by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. The state's Democrats also have a financial advantage in the races for retiring Reps. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Ed Royce, R-Calif.
