Recent exit polls suggest that Democratic voters are looking for a presidential candidate who is more liberal than former President Barack Obama, and show that support for “Medicare for All” is growing in several states.
The Washington Times found that 42% voters in Illinois’ Democratic presidential primary want the next president to have policies that are “more liberal than Obama’s,” compared to 37% who said that the next president should return to Obama’s policies, and 8% who want a more conservative president than Obama next.
In exit polls following Florida’s presidential primary, 43% said that they want a return to Obama’s policies, while 36% wanted a more liberal president. However, they also found that the majority of voters support a government-run healthcare plan similar to the “Medicare for All” plan proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., by 59% in Illinois and 57% in Florida. Fox News’ polling found even higher levels of support: 71% in Illinois and 74% in Florida.
NBC News found similar support for “Medicare for All” in several southern states, according to exit polls taken during the Democratic presidential primaries on Super Tuesday. Democratic primary voters support a government health insurance plan for all by 62% in Mississippi, 53% in Tennessee, 52% in Virginia, and 51% in Alabama.
