While Republicans remained mostly mum in the aftermath of Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson's withdrawal Thursday from consideration to run the Department of Veterans Affairs, Democrats slammed the president for nominating him in the first place.
Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, slammed President Donald Trump's poor vetting of Jackson as an "insult" to veterans.
And while Trump was slamming the ranking Democrat on the Senate committee, Sen. Jon Tester, the Montanan released a statement suggesting Jackson was not fit to run the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"It is my constitutional responsibility to make sure the veterans of this nation get a strong, thoroughly vetted leader who will fight for them," Tester said. "My sleeves are rolled up and ready to work with Chairman (Johnny) Isakson to vet and confirm a Secretary who is fit to run the VA."
One veterans group leader voiced his frustration with the turmoil of finding someone to lead the VA.
"We now face the prospect of a stunning eighth nominee for VA Secretary since 9/11. Our community is exhausted by the unnecessary and seemingly never-ending drama," said Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, said in a statement.
First Daughter Ivanka Trump took to Twitter to welcome Jackson back to the friendly confinds of the White House.
