Democrats are pressing former Vice President Joe Biden to show them his shortlist of Supreme Court nominees, to ensure that major liberal issues such as abortion and LGBT rights are maintained, according to CBS News

"As president, Biden would appoint judges who share his values and would protect the Constitution, and has promised to make history by appointing the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court of the United States," Biden's national press secretary TJ Ducklo told CBS News in a statement.

During a Democratic debate last month, Biden promised to pick a black woman to the court when he got elected.  Then during an interview on ABC's "The View,"  the candidate said he had four women on his list, although he didn't bother to mention who they were.

But according to Demand Justice executive director Brian Fallon, any attempt by Biden to choose a candidate who will push liberal issues like climate change or voting rights is "going to run head-long into a hostile court based on the 200-plus judges that Donald Trump has confirmed."

"We are about 40 or 50 years behind the conservatives on realizing that a lot of excitement actually happens at the courts," Indivisible Project's director of democracy policy Meagan Hatcher-Mays told CBS News
