Dems Cuts Losses While GOP Expands Horizons

Wednesday, 13 October 2010 05:14 PM EDT

The national Democratic Party is cutting the number of candidates to whom it’s offering financial support, just as Republicans broaden their horizons, Politico reports. The actions reflect Democrats’ waning fortunes and Republicans’ rising fortunes in races throughout the country.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has abandoned at least five congressional candidates, including incumbents Steve Driehaus in Ohio, Kathy Dahlkemper in Pennsylvania, and Suzanne Kosmas in Florida. The DCCC also has dumped once-hot candidates Roy Herron in Tennessee and Trent Van Haaften in Indiana.

Meanwhile, The National Republican Congressional Committee has broadened its list to fight against once-safe Democrats, including Ohio Rep. Charlie Wilson, Minnesota Rep. Tim Walz, and Tennessee Rep. Lincoln Davis.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is focusing resources on Democratic-held seats in Colorado, California, West Virginia, Illinois and Washington.
