Democratic candidate Conor Lamb has a four-point lead in a Pennsylvania special election for a vacant House seat, Talking Points Memo reported.

Lamb leads Republican candidate Rick Saccone by 48 percent to 44 percent, according to the poll.

The candidates are vying for a House position left vacant with the resignation of former Rep. Tim Murphy, who resigned in October.

The lead is the highest margin for Lamb in any public polling so far, Talking Points Memo reported.

The race is in a conservative district that President Donald Trump won by 20 points in the 2016 presidential election. If Lamb wins, it would be the first House of Representatives special election win for Democrats since Trump was elected.

Trump plans to campaign for Saccone on Saturday, the report said.

The poll surveyed 707 likely voters in Pennsylvania from March 6-8, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Some Republicans in the state are displeased with Saccone, Politico reported Wednesday.

Ken Spain, who was a senior aide of the National Republican Campaign Committee when Republicans took the House in 2010, said in Politico that the quality of a candidate is important.

"In a tough political environment, candidate quality matters more than ever. In an anti-GOP year — which this is shaping up to be — the Republican candidates will need to run much stronger campaigns or be prepared for the national party to cut them loose," Spain said.
