DeMint Campaign Group Seeks $15 Million

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., wants to see the 2012 elections create a more conservative Senate, and he’s putting together an operation to make that happen. DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund hopes to raise a hefty $15 million, almost $6 million more than last year, when his political action committee attracted more money than any other politician’s PAC, Politico reports.

demint, conservative, senate, groupTo be sure, DeMint’s activity won’t necessarily sit well with the Republican establishment, which was perturbed by his activity against some of its chosen candidates last year. DeMint’s group could clash with the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which supports the candidate it views as most electable.

Unlike the NRSC, the Senate Conservatives Fund plans to play a major role in Republican primaries, backing conservative candidates against moderates.
