President Donald Trump believes that war is a way to solve political disputes, said Rep. Jim Himes.

"We need to be sensitive to the fact that this president, who doesn’t have a very sophisticated sense of international relations, regards a war as a way to solve political problems and that’s a scary thought,” said Himes Monday on CNN's "New Day."

The Connecticut Democrat was responding to a Sunday night tweet from the president, in which he told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, "Never, ever threaten the United States again," in all caps.

Himes said that before he was president, Trump tweeted that he expected Barack Obama would start a war if Obama were in a tough spot politically.

If "that’s what’s in his head, that’s what worries me,” Himes said.

However, he said that he does not believe war is imminent with Iran.

"I think it’s an overstatement to say we’re at the brink of war. I think that’s probably not true," Himes told CNN.
