In a sign of what Democrats say is a groundswell political movement against President Donald Trump and his policies, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has set a record for the most money ever brought in for the month of February, The Huffington Post reported.

The DCCC raised $9.8 million last month to shatter its previous record intake for February, which was $5.1 million in 2015.

"The DCCC’s record-breaking fundraising is a reflection of the groundswell of early support and energy behind House Democrats," DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law said. "Such strong support from our donors, including massive growth in our grass-roots base, will continue to benefit our committee and our candidates as we work to maximize gains on an expanded battlefield."

However, the GOP has also been setting fundraising records; the National Republican Congressional Committee took in $10.5 million in February to break its previous mark of $8.3 million for the month set in 2003.

Democrats insist that their unprecedented intake is even more impressive considering the Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House, and that some two-thirds of their fundraising is coming from small-dollar donors, the HuffPost reports.

Dems insist this is a sign of a newly impassioned public, outraged at the Trump administration, that has actively sought to confront his policies by deluging congressmen with phone calls and showing up at GOP town halls in massive numbers in protest.

The rush of money on both sides is causing anticipation for a number of high-stakes midterm races, as Democrats try to take back the House.

Democrats have already released their initial list of 59 Republican-held seats they plan to target in 2018, Roll Call reported.

Democrats will have to pick up 24 seats in the House to win back the lower chamber.
