David Brock, founder of the liberal Media Matters for America, told reporters in Washington on Tuesday that he plans a "Breitbart of the left" to attack President-elect Donald Trump.
Brock plans to use his website Shareblue.com in the same way Breitbart.com was used to attack Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton during the election, The Hill reports.
Brock bought BlueNationReview in 2015 and renamed it Shareblue. He said it will become a liberal version of Breitbart to serve as a Trump attack dog as long as donations keep pouring in to keep it running.
Brock also confirmed an earlier report that Media Matters will move its focus from monitoring Fox News and conservative talk radio to Breitbart and the alt-right movement, which he accused of spreading "fake news" on Facebook and Twitter that he believes led to Clinton's defeat.
"A lot of garbage came spewing out of Facebook, and these companies need to adopt new standards and clean their own house," Brock said. "We'll be involved in a campaign to push them to do that."
Brock has previously said his other groups will change their direction following Trump's win. His American Bridge will now be a "war room" looking into Trump's business dealings and personal life, while Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) will become a liberal version of Judicial Watch, the conservative watchdog group that went after Clinton using Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.
Brock said he hopes to get Clinton involved in his efforts once she has moved past the initial sting of her election loss.
