Media Matters, a liberal watchdog that keeps tabs on the media and often criticizes conservative-leaning outlets, will shift away from bashing Fox News and will instead target other "bad actors."
The organization's new president Angelo Carusone told Politico there are other websites and news outlets that should be critiqued.
"There was a period of time which we were, rightfully so, described as the 'Fox antagonists,'" said Angelo Carusone, who is being promoted from executive vice president to president. "Now, our mission is to be principally focused on the value of journalism.
"It used to be simple, Fox News was the gate keeper … but now there are so many potential bad actors. Now there are places like Facebook who aren't bad actors but can be enablers of misinformation."
Carusone was likely referring to fake news reports that have appeared on the internet. Some Democrats claim those false stories contributed to Hillary Clinton's loss in the presidential election.
Media Matters founder David Brock, a Democratic operative and Clinton backer, said his organization will also take on the alt-right — which has made news in the wake of Republican Donald Trump's win in the presidential election.
Democrats accused the voting bloc of helping Trump get elected, and they also said Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon is part of the movement.
Bannon also used to work for Breitbart, a news organization people have linked to the alt-right.
"Whether it's blunting the alt-right's ascent, ensuring the media doesn't normalize Trump's bigotry or neutralizing the spread of fake news and other propaganda, Media Matters has critical work ahead," Brock said, Politico reports.
