New Yorkers believe Gov. Andrew Cuomo is the tops. He’s better than President Barack Obama, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.
Cuomo, who has been in the job for only seven months, rated consistently higher than the other three among those polled.
“Cuomo’s job approval holds high at almost two-thirds,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Even Republicans like the Democratic governor.”
When asked who is the better leader, 46 percent said Cuomo, compared with 38 percent who preferred Obama. In a head-to-head against Bloomberg, Cuomo won 51-35 percent, and against Christie, he won 40-29 percent.
When asked what word best describes Cuomo, whose father, Mario, was New York governor from 1983-94, “good” came out top, followed by “competent,” and “trying” — as in attempting. Only one of the 1,640 people polled used a profanity to describe him, Carroll said.
“Honest, competent, effective. When was the last time you heard voters use those kinds of words to describe a politician?” Carroll said.
“We’re running out of ways to measure how much New York State voters like Gov. Andrew Cuomo.”
