Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., Texas Republican, on Sunday blasted the House impeachment process “a partisan show trial.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Cruz was asked whether there would a majority to vote for a quick trial with no witnesses.
"There are 51 votes in the Senate for a fair trial,” he said. “What we have seen in the House is a partisan show trial… the Senate will do much much better.”
Cruz vowed that in the Senate, “you can be sure we will let the president defend himself.”
“If the president wants to call Hunter Biden, or wants to call the whistleblower, the Senate should allow [him] to do so,” he urged.
Cruz said the process in the House last week saw “their entire partisan case collapse.”
“For weeks and months, they’ve been promising evidence of criminal conduct,” he said. “They abandoned all of that and admitted the evidence doesn’t support all of their attacks that have happened before.”
