Ted Cruz Heads for New Hampshire

By    |   Monday, 15 July 2013 08:15 AM EDT

Sen. Ted Cruz will visit to New Hampshire this summer, increasing speculation that he will pursue a 2016 presidential bid.

The Texas Republican is the keynote speaker at an Aug. 23 fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party. His appearance in Dublin will mark his first visit to the state that tops the presidential primary calendar, the Manchester Union Leader reports. The New Hampshire primary tentatively is Jan. 12, 2016.

The 42-year-old freshman and tea party favorite also is scheduled to visit Iowa and Florida, this summer. In May, he visited South Carolina to headline a fundraising dinner.

Those four states held the first four contests in the GOP's 2012 presidential primary season.
