A new ad released by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign centers on a fictitious war room scene in which Democrat Hillary Clinton and her aides root for Donald Trump.
"What do you have for me?" an actor presumably playing Clinton's top aide Huma Abedin says at the start of the ad that's well over 2 minutes long.
"Madame Secretary, the plan is coming together. Donald Trump is paving the way for you to win the White House," an aide responds.
"What's our next move?" asks Abedin.
Another aide replies, "Our [opposition research] file on Trump is ready to go. When our friends in the media release this stuff, he's toast."
The ad then talks about lawsuits that have been leveled against Trump, his failed businesses, his stance on abortion, his dealings with the IRS, and his opinion that Japan and South Korea should have nuclear weapons.
The ad shows its true Cruz colors near the end after one of the aides says, "Our latest polling indicates Americans want a president they can trust. Someone who isn't …"
The responses then come one after another.
"A liar?"
"Someone who respects the Constitution and the rights it protects."
"Someone who has a proven track record taking on the Washington establishment."
"America wants a real leader."
A folder is then pushed over to Clinton, who opens it and finds a picture of Cruz fastened to a file about him.
'"How do we stop Ted Cruz?" Abedin says twice.
One of the aides responds, "I don't think we can."
