Former Rep. Mark Critz, D-Pa., is seriously considering challenging Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Pa., in an attempt to regain the seat he lost to Rothfus in a hard-fought campaign last year, reports
the Hill.
Since going down to defeat in the fall, Critz has made no secret of his desire to return to the political arena, either facing off against Rothfus again or making a run for lieutenant governor.
Last week, Critz discussed his future with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and from all accounts, he’s on the verge of announcing his intention to run for the House in 2014.
That announcement should come by the end of June, which will allow Critz to get his campaign underway at the start of the new fundraising quarter at the beginning of July.
National Democrats couldn’t be happier about Critz’s potential run.
The centrist Democrat took 48 percent of the vote against Rothfus in 2012 despite Mitt Romney winning the southwestern Pennsylvania district by 15 points.
He is the only candidate the Party believes to have any kind of realistic shot of capturing the GOP-leaning seat.
