RFK Jr. Endorses Crist Over Democrat Meek, GOP's Rubio

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in his bid for U.S. Senate against Republican tea party favorite Marco Rubio and Democratic U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek. Acknowledging the fact that his endorsement of Crist’s independent bid passes over Meek even though the Kennedy name is synonymous with the Democratic Party, the New Yorker said that, if he thought Meek could win, “I’d be down here campaigning for him,” according to a report in The Palm Beach Post.

In a video in which Kennedy endorsed Crist, who bolted the Republican Party when it appeared he would lose the GOP nomination to Rubio, he describes Rubio as having a “narrow” and “radical” vision.

Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, praised Crist as a champion of environmental causes. Meanwhile, he described Rubio’s outlook as “I-can-be-as-stupid-as-I-want,” and went so far as to call the Republican a “crackpot.”

Kennedy’s endorsement made support for Crist a family affair, after a fashion. Tuesday, his cousin-in-law, Republican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, endorsed Crist as well.
