Trump, Cuomo Discuss How to 'Supercharge' Economy

(NBC News)

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat,  said his conversation with President Donald Trump was centered around how to "supercharge" an economy that has been crippled by the coronavirus pandemic by launching infrastructure projects.

Cuomo told a group of reporters in Washington, D.C. that his conversation with Trump was productive.

“It was about how do we supercharge the reopening especially in New York which has been hardest hit, how do we take some of these big infrastructure projects that have been sitting around for a long time — which if we were all smarter and better we would have done them 30 years ago — and actually get them up and running because we have to do this work anyway and because we need the jobs now more than ever,” Cuomo said.

In particular, Cuomo talked about the $30 billion Second Avenue Subway project, the Gateway Tunnel project and a project that would bring an air train to LaGuardia airport.

Cuomo talked about the differences he's had with Trump but said the two have committed to working toward solutions during the pandemic.

“It was not about politics,” the New York governor said of the meeting.

Cuomo added: “It was a good discussion, he understood what we were talking about, understood what we need, and he’s going to be thinking about it, talk to his team, and he said we’ll talk next week.”
