Sen. John Cornyn warned that other members of Congress will want their say on any immigration deal reached between President Donald Trump and Democratic congressional leaders, The Hill is reporting.
"As a practical matter, 533 other members of Congress are going to want to weigh in on the topic," said Cornyn, R-Texas, the Senate majority whip.
His comments came after President Donald Trump met Wednesday night at the White House with Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
At one point, there was said to have been agreement with Trump supporting congressional actions to put Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program protection into law in exchange for promises to enhance border security, The Hill said.
But Trump stressed no final deal was made, but later said he was "fairly close" to reaching one.
Cornyn noted Schumer and Pelosi only got "an agreement to agree," but "even if they did have an agreement, that's not binding on anybody else, The Hill reported.
