White House counselor Kellyanne Conway indicated Friday that she would accept the position of communications director following the departure of Hope Hicks.
On Wednesday, The Atlantic reported that Conway was being considered for the role, citing unnamed sources. One senior White House officials said "it's becoming increasingly difficult for her to say no."
"I'm here to support the president however he sees is most important," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" when asked if she might take the position that Hicks will soon leave. "I will do whatever is best, whatever my best and highest use is here."
"As counselor to the president, that takes on any number of different tasks and one has been in terms of policy. That's been my major portfolio here," she continued. "But I think to be effective communication directors, as we've seen, you also have to know policy, you have to be read-in. But we have very talented people here."
Earlier this month, Conway told CNN "I've been offered that job many times, and no, I work on policy here at the White House," and added that Hicks will be "very difficult to replace."
The Hill reported earlier this week that Mercedes Schlapp and Tony Sayegh had emerged as finalists and the most likely to replace Hicks.
