Conway: Trump's Position on North Korea Has 'Never Changed'

President Donald Trump's position on North Korea has "never changed," presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday, while commenting about the president's tweeted taunt to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that his nuclear button is "bigger."

"The president's position and our position on North Korea has never changed," Conway told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" co-anchor Bill Hemmer.

"He continues to apply maximum pressure. North Korea must denuclearize the peninsula region, and we're very happy there seems to be a more unified international effort in this regard in that pursuit."

The United Nations' resolution on Dec. 22, and previous resolutions, have unanimously been in support of the United States' position on North Korea, she added.

"This is key because this president made clear from the beginning and consistently throughout the first year of his presidency that a nuclearized North Korea is not just a danger and threat to America, but to the entire world, and the world is responding," said Conway.

Further, Trump has said many times that nobody wants war, she continued, but at the same time, "we have just seen so much over the past years of looking the other way."

"Look at what is happening in Iran," said Conway. "You have a president not looking the other way when peaceful people are protesting to get basic, essential necessities met. People are upset that so much of the money and aid that could be going to their basic needs within the country of Iran are instead being diverted to foment terrorism and fear."

It's very much part of Trump's doctrine that the United States stands with peaceful, loving people, and that "you stand up to those who are threatening global security, like happening in North Korea," said Conway.

"It is a dangerous place and we're very happy that the international community is responding, including through U.N. resolutions."
