Kellyanne Conway, the only woman to ever manage a winning presidential campaign, said Sunday her staff never considered dealing with Russia, as Hillary Clinton did by funding the Russian-fed dossier on President Donald Trump, because Clinton ostensibly handed over victory without it.
"As campaign manager for the winning campaign, I never even a single time even thought about what how to deal with Russians to win," Conway told CNN's "Reliable Sources." "Hillary Clinton – as Donna Brazile just pointed out, I agree with her completely – she was a walking, talking treasure trove of how to beat Hillary Clinton.
"We never needed to look farther than her. As Donna points out, there was this feeling of inevitability and smugness over in Brooklyn that they didn’t have to campaign on the issues, that they didn't have to campaign hard. [Brazile] didn't see the enthusiasm for Clinton and never did we. So, there'd be no reason to talk to Moscow."
Host Brian Stelter denounced Conway's "pivoting," saying she is deflecting allegations of Russia collusion to Clinton's campaign failings. Conway responded by repeating Russia information was not needed to win.
"I'd be happy to never talk about the 2016 election again," Conway responded. "You know why? We won it. I broke the glass ceiling, and I work here, this guy's governing, but the reason we’re still talking about it is because of the DNC, because Hillary Clinton's on a book tour that you're considered non-fiction, not fiction.
"They're still talking about the 2016 campaign. . . . Let's not do it."
