Less than one-in-five Americans have a favorable view of Congress, according to the most recent poll from Gallup.
Gallup, which conducts a monthly poll on Congress’ approval rating, found that very few Americans think members of Congress are doing a good job.
- 17 percent in July;
- 19 percent in June;
- 17 percent in May.
According to previous polls, Congress’ approval rating has remained in the teens for most of the past six months, hitting a low of 13 percent in October and November, but rising to 20 percent in January, after the passage of the Republican tax bill.
Republicans remain more likely to approve of Congress, in which they have a majority in both chambers, while Democrats are least likely to approve.
- 29 percent of Republicans;
- 9 percent of Democrats;
- 15 percent of independents.
Gallup surveyed 1,033 adults in all 50 states and the District of Columbia from July 1-11, 2018, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
