Congressional committee members are seeking all communications, including phone calls, related to Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer last year as they try to determine if anything illegal took place.
CBS News cites a congressional source who said there is "high interest" in getting copies of phone records pertaining to the meeting.
Trump Jr. agreed to meet with the Russian lawyer at Trump Tower last summer on the promise of receiving potentially damaging information about Democrat Hillary Clinton. It was later revealed that no such information was exchanged, but it appears neither Trump Jr. nor President Donald Trump have been entirely open as to who else attended the meeting and what was discussed.
According to an email transcript released by Trump Jr., the man who set up the meeting said the Clinton information was coming from the Russian government. That has stoked the collusion fires that have been smoldering for months.
CBS asked Sen. James Risch, R-Idaho, to comment on the meeting and the circumstances surrounding the president's crafting of a statement for his son after The New York Times broke the story.
"I guarantee you there were phone calls in addition to those emails, and I want to hear all of it before I answer the question you put to me," Risch said.
