A political action group that raised nearly $3 million through robocalls and radio ads asking for money to help elect Donald Trump president made no direct donations to his campaign, CNN reports.
Liberty Action Group has been described as an "extremely shady PAC" by The Sunlight Foundation, a nonpartisan nonprofit that advocates for transparency in government.
The cable news network says the people behind Liberty Action have now targeted progressives by soliciting donations under the name of Progressive Priorities PAC, which robocalls potential donors, plays a recording of former President Barack Obama and asks for money to "help Obama impeach Trump."
FEC records for Progressive Priorities PAC, which also ran radio ads soliciting donations during the 2016 Democratic primary, show it has “never directly contributed to any candidate or cause,” CNN says.
