Sen. Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend., Ind., top a new CNN poll for the upcoming New Hampshire primary following their close finish in last week's Iowa caucuses.
Sanders, I-Vt., tops the primary field with 28% support from likely Democratic primary voters, with Buttigieg at 21% Their numbers climbed by 3 points for Sanders and points from January.
The poll was conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center from Feb. 4-7 of 365 likely Democrat primary voters and has a margin of 5.1 percentage points.
Former Vice-President Joe Biden placed third in the poll, at 11%, marking a 5-point drop from last month, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., dropped to 9%.
- Sanders's support came at Warren's expense:
- Sanders up by 8 points among voters younger than 45.
- Sanders up 10 points among self-identified liberals.
- Warren dropped 6 points among liberals.
Buttigieg's numbers rose at Biden's expense:
- Buttigieg up 8 points among voters younger than 45.
- Buttigieg up 6 points among moderates and conservatives
- Biden down by 9 points among older voters and 5 points with conservatives.
Meanwhile, Buttigieg carried a slim lead of 21-19% over Sanders among voters who are only leaning toward a candidate or are undecided.
Most primary voters, at 56%, said they anticipate Sanders will win the primary.
