Clay Aiken, the former "American Idol" runner-up and Democratic nominee for Congress in 2014, had some not-so-nice words for the Republican who beat him, North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers.
"She's a *****," Aiken said, an insult associated with a female dog. "She’s an idiot. And I think her self-esteem is just in the floor, under the floor,"
The Hill reports.
Aiken made the comments Monday on Howard Stern's XM radio show while promoting "Runner-Up," an Esquire Network documentary series about the singer's bid for Congress.
Aiken also referred to Ellmers by a slang term for the female anatomy, The Hill reported.
"I’m not a fan of the person I ran against in Congress, obviously," he said.
"Mr. Aiken’s crude language and disrespectful demeanor toward the congresswoman has proven to the American people why he is a runner-up," Ellmers spokeswoman Blair Ellis said in a prepared statement.
Ellmers defeated Aiken by 17 points in November's midterm elections. Aiken first gained fame when he came in second on the second season of "American Idol," when he lost to Ruben Studdard.
