Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer confronted a wealthy Donald Trump supporter at a Manhattan restaurant and yelled that the president is "a liar," Page Six of the New York Post is reporting.

The scene took place at the Sette Mezzo restaurant on the Upper East Side, witnesses told Emily Smith of Page Six.

Schumer, a New York Democrat, happened to run into Joseph Califano Jr. and his wife Hilary.

Califano Jr. served as secretary of health, education and welfare under President Jimmy Carter and domestic policy adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson.

"Onlookers said Schumer was incensed that Hilary — the daughter of William S. Paley, the founder and chairman of CBS — had voted for Trump, even though her husband, Joseph, is a well-known Democrat," the newspaper reported.

A witness tells Page Six, Schumer caused a scene by yelling, "She voted for Trump." According to that witness, Schumer then followed the couple outside the restaurant and shouted: "How could you vote for Trump? He's a lair."

Hilary confirmed the encounter, telling Page Six: "Sen. Schumer was really rude. Yes, I voted for Trump. Schumer joined us outside and he told me Trump was a liar. I should have told him that Hillary Clinton was a liar, but I was so surprised I didn't say anything."

But another restaurant patron disputed the story and said it was nothing more than a pleasant conversation.

And Schumer's office added: "There were no heated exchanges with ‎anyone."
