Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley maintained a broad 13 percent lead over Democratic challenger Patty Judge for Iowa's U.S. Senate race, according to the latest poll conducted by Simpson College/RABA Research.
The result:
- Grassley: 50 percent
- Judge: 37 percent
While in most other polls, Grassley led Judge by 7 to 10 percentage points, RealClearPolitics showed Grassley with an average lead of 8.6 percentage points.
While Judge is struggling to gather support within her own party, Grassley is capitalizing on the Democrat's disadvantage.
Judge, who has the support of just 73 percent of Democratic voters, still had a lot of hard work to do to convince the 16 percent who are not sure. Eleven percent voters have said they would vote for Grassley. Meanwhile, he enjoys the support of 90 percent of Republican voters.
Earlier polls too show a strong lean towards the Republican incumbent.
Among no-party voters too, Grassley holds a strong advantage of 16 percentage points. He leads among both men and women by 19 and 8 percentage points.
The Simpson/RABA poll was conducted from September 6-8 with 1,054 likely Iowa voters. The poll's margin of error is 3 percentage points.
