Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, anticipates another vacancy on the Supreme Court within months.

"I would expect a resignation this summer," he said, the Muscatine Journal newspaper in Iowa reported.

He noted an upcoming resignation has been "rumored." But did not elaborate, according to the paper.

Grassley said a nominee would likely come from the same list newly appointed Justice Neil Gorsuch was chosen from.

"I don't know about racial and ethnic divisions, but there's some very good females on there that would make good Supreme Court justices as well," he said.

His comments follow remarks by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who had said in February he expected another vacancy on the court within months.

"This summer, I think we'll have another Supreme Court vacancy," Cruz said, according to The Hill.

"If that happens, as much as the left is crazy now, they will go full Armageddon meltdown. Because the next vacancy is where we have the ability to get back and restore our nation's constitutional protections."
