Fox Anchor Chris Wallace Says AG Barr Protecting Trump

By    |   Friday, 17 May 2019 05:14 PM EDT

Attorney General William Barr is "clearly" protecting President Donald Trump, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said.

Reacting to Barr's interview with Fox Friday morning, Wallace said he believes Barr is on Trump's side and wants to keep him safe from prosecution in regards to obstruction of justice.

"What really comes across to me [about the Barr interview] most of all is that for two years Donald Trump sat there and said, 'I don't have an attorney general. I don't have somebody out there looking for and protecting my interests,'" said Wallace, alluding to former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. "He clearly has that now with Bill Barr.

"Not saying that Barr isn't right in everything he says. But he clearly is protecting this president and advocating his point of view on a lot of these issues. And I suspect that as President Trump, who probably has watched some of this interview himself, is saying finally, 'No Jeff Sessions, Bill Barr instead.'"

Barr and Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general at the time, determined that special counsel Robert Mueller did not find sufficient evidence to warrant an obstruction case against Trump. Democrats and Trump's critics, however, have pointed to numerous instances where Mueller speculated that Trump may have been trying to obstruct his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.
