Christie Set to Release Hard-Hitting Ads Against Challenger

By    |   Saturday, 11 May 2013 05:47 PM EDT

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie plans to release ads next week attacking Democratic opponent Barbara Buono as a tax-hiker and linking her to unpopular former governor Jon Corzine.

“Meet Barbara Buono, Jon Corzine’s budget chair and now running for governor,” the spot says, according to Politico. It adds, “Buono voted 154 times to raise our taxes.”

The ad, the first negative one by Christie in the campaign, is to begin running on Monday. It is part of an $800,000 buy over the next week, Politico reports.

Buono, who has served in the New Jersey Legislature since 2002, has had a tough time gaining name-recognition and raising money in the race against the tremendously popular Republican governor.

The spot also describes Christie as a budget-slasher who has steered the state well. “Chris Christie: The Governor,” the ad says.
