Donald Trump's senior adviser Boris Epshteyn is "a foe of the facts" according to CNN's Chris Cuomo, after the lawyer accused Hillary Clinton of relying on her campaign staff to speak on her behalf instead of addressing issues herself.
"Don't be a foe of the facts," Cuomo said. "Remember that when we were in law school?"
"I love the facts," Epshteyn responded. He had previously contended that Clinton relied on her campaign to deliver news of her health after the 9/11 memorial event she attended on Sunday, and that she doesn't answer questions on her private email server.
"You're being a foe of the facts right now," Cuomo said again, claiming that Clinton has directly answered questions on both.
Cuomo then brought up Trump's previous refusal to admit that President Barack Obama was born in the United States, instead relying on his staff to convey that he no longer questioned Obama's birthplace. Trump has since announced that he does believe Obama was born in Hawaii.
"She came out to talk about it, he won't answer this question. It's weird at a minimum," Cuomo said.
Epshteyn then accused the anchor of "editorializing," to which Cuomo responded that Trump has "never not addressed a question directly, himself before."
"Give me one example," Cuomo asked.
"What does that matter?" Epshteyn replied.
