Rep. Chris Collins: Romney Is a 'Self-Serving Egomaniac'

Rep. Chris Collins on Monday joined the chorus of those who think Mitt Romney would make an awful choice for secretary of state, calling the 2012 GOP nominee for president a "lone wolf" and "self-serving egomaniac."

"I know that he is a self-serving egomaniac who puts himself first, who has a chip on his shoulder, that thinks he should be president of the United States," Collins told CNN's "New Day" program.

Collins, R-NY, echoes the sentiments of Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Kellyanne Conway, to name three, who have panned the candidacy of Romney.

"My concern is Mitt Romney's a bit of a lone wolf and might not take the advice, or the direction of President-elect Trump," Collins said on CNN. "I've not seen in Mitt Romney the personality traits of someone who will take direction."

Gingrich said Sunday that Trump supporters would be "enormously disappointed" if their president chose Romney, who not only didn't endorse Trump but publicly spokes out against him more than once, calling him a "fraud" and a "phony."

"There's no love lost between me and Mitt Romney. I've called him a loser for the last 6 months even though I supported him," Collins said. "I'm gonna leave it up to President-elect Trump to pick the people in his cabinet that he thinks can serve his administration."
