New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is still on the fence about a Republican presidential run in 2016, his wife says.
Mary Pat Christie's announcement last week that she was quitting her financial industry job in New York City has fueled speculation that the governor is preparing to make a presidential run.
But the state's first lady
tells The Record that her resignation from Angelo, Gordon & Co., described as an alternative-investment firm, had more to do with family time than Washington politics.
"I’m spending a lot of time with my children and my husband and really enjoying the opportunity, and I can’t thank my most recent former employer enough for all the opportunities they’ve given me," she said Monday, The Record reports.
"I had a part-time nanny, she’s working less and less, so I really am going to be home with them. It really is great. I have an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old, and they really need me."
Oldest son Andrew, 21, is a junior at Princeton, and Sarah, the oldest daughter, 19, is a freshman at Notre Dame. The youngest are Patrick and Bridget.
"I’ve been really blessed and really cherish the time I get with my children, and it makes me feel important to have to provide for the children and really be their example," she said at an event celebrating a housing program for pregnant homeless women and troubled teenagers. "You’re teaching them every day."
But now she'll have more time to travel with the governor, too.
"I’ve been doing these things for five years, and of course I’ll be out with Chris as he goes around the state elsewhere as much as I can," she said, The Record reports.
Though she said they haven't decided about a presidential run, she and Chris Christie "have lots of conversations about it," The Record reports.
