Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, responded to comments from Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for the Alabama Senate.
Moore, one of two Republican candidates vying in a runoff for the Alabama Senate position vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, appeared to describe Native Americans and Asians as "reds and yellows" in a campaign speech Sunday, according to The Hill.
"Now we have blacks and white fighting, reds and yellows fighting, Democrats and Republicans fighting, men and women fighting. What's going to unite us? What's going to bring us back together? A president? A Congress? No. It's going to be God," Moore said in the Sunday speech.
Clinton responded with a reference to her daughter Charlotte.
Moore's campaign told the Hill that the candidate's remarks were taken out of context. "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world," the Moore campaign said in a statement, making an apparent reference to the religious song "Jesus Loves the Little Children."
Moore is leading Sen. Luther Strange in polling a week ahead of the runoff vote, according to JMC Analytics.
