A day after Donald Trump backed away from his initial pledge to support the Republican party's presidential choice if it's someone other than him, Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer says the pledge "never existed"
During an appearance on
"Special Report," Wednesday evening, Krauthammer addressed the growing controversy surrounding the leading Republican candidate for president.
"It never existed in the first place," Krauthammer said. "These were pledges waiting to be broken. This just about ensures the ending of the convention won't be a happy scene on the stage. And the campaign will be a bitter one internally among Republicans."
Trump said on CNN Tuesday night
he would not honor the pledge he signed because "I've been treated very unfairly" by the Republican National Committee and the party establishment.
The pledge was essentially a promise not to run as an independent candidate if another candidate in the race gets the party's spot on the November ballot.
Trump signed it in September.
Political analyst Dick Morris told Newsmax Wednesday that Trump's decision to renege on the promise will
"inflame his supporters."
"Trump's announcement will matter something because he's going to have the capacity to inflame his supporters to a boiling pitch if he's denied the nomination in a way he considers unfair," Morris said.
