President Donald Trump will commemorate the 200th mile of border wall during his appearance in Arizona Tuesday, and by the end of this calendar year, a total of 450 miles will be finished, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said.
"It's a great accomplishment," said Wolf, who will travel to Arizona with Trump, in a Fox News' "Fox and Friends" interview. "It's a commitment the president made to the American people to protect our southwest border."
The achievement comes after Trump and the administration both worked with Congress and after it took action when Congress refused to fund border wall security, said Wolf.
"We have over $9 billion dedicated to the border wall system," said Wolf. "We are a little over 215 miles today."
Wolf also discussed the president's decision to extend the freeze on Visas that allow people to come into the United States to work, saying that he made the move because he wants to give American workers priority treatment.
"The president said as we build this economy back up, he wants American workers first," said Wolf. "He wants to give them the opportunity to come back into the workforce, regain their jobs, and contribute to this economy. So what we did is we pause a number of these Visas and we are going to allow Americans to compete for those jobs first and foremost."
Wolf said the plan is "absolutely working," and job numbers are continuing to rise month by month, while unemployment is beginning to decline a bit as well.
"We just need to give the American workers another leg up and by suspending these Visas, we believe we are doing just that," said Wolf, adding that the Visa Ban will last until the end of the year.
