The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that sick voters can safely cast their ballots in person as long as they follow proper coronavirus guidance, according to the Washington Examiner.
“Voters have the right to vote, regardless of whether they are sick or in quarantine,” the CDC said in its updated guidance updated on Monday.
The CDC guidance asked anyone who intends to vote in-person to wear a mask, use hand sanitizer and a black ink pen.
“This includes wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet away from others, and washing your hands or using hand sanitizer before and after voting,” the guidance reads “You should also let poll workers know that you are sick or in quarantine when you arrive at the polling location. Check with local authorities for any additional guidance.”
An estimated 94 million people have voted since the coronavirus pandemic, with people either voting early or by mail. That's more than 68% of the total vote leading up to the 2016 Election Day.
The United States currently has more coronavirus cases than all other nations, with more than 231,000 deaths since the onset of the pandemic.
