Carter Page, who was a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump's presidential campaign, reacted on Monday to information in a memo that alleged FBI abused surveillance powers to spy on him.
"There was a lot of details that kept dripping out and it sounded really bad. . . when I actually saw it, it was even worse than I could have possibly imagined," Page said Monday in an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham.
Page offered praise for the House Intelligence Committee's work on the memo, which included previously classified details about FBI and Justice Department officials allegedly failing to reveal that the request they used to get a warrant to spy on Page was based on a dossier indirectly funded by Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Republican leaders conceded that the FBI did reveal that the dossier's backers were political sources, according to Politico.
Page denied a claim in the dossier that he had a secret meeting with a Russian oil executive and ally to Russian President Vladimir Putin about possibly lifting sanctions against Russia.
Page told Ingraham that anyone within the Trump campaign who had "any connection positive or otherwise" with Russia became the "number one target for attack."
The president's son, Donald Trump Jr., on Monday denied Page was a vital part of his father's campaign, saying, "This is a low-level person who worked in a campaign," Politico reported.
