NC Rep. Jones May Face Primary Challenge

By    |   Tuesday, 30 April 2013 02:25 PM EDT

Although he did not formally announce his candidacy, Craven County, N.C., Commission Chairman Scott Dacey said last week he is considering a primary challenge to Republican Rep. Walter Jones in 2014.

Dacey cited the fact that Jones has never held a leadership position on the House Armed Services Committee and Jones’ removal from the House Financial Services Committee as reasons he is positioned to take on the ten-term incumbent for re-nomination.

Jones has long been regarded as a maverick within his own party and was known for his opposition to the U.S. role in Afghanistan going back to the Bush administration.
