A little know fact has emerged that presidential candidate Carly Fiorina is the daughter of a judge who appointed Kenneth Starr to investigate the Clinton's Whitewater scandal.
According to
The Washington Post, conservative Judge Joseph Sneed, who was appointed to the bench by Richard Nixon, was on the three-judge panel asked to choose a new independent counsel in the 1990s.
The Clintons and many Democrats at the time saw the choice of Starr as politically motivated, and his selection did set off an investigation that was broader in scope than originally expected.
Fiorina has described her deceased father as her "true north" and the one person who instilled in her a "strong internal compass" that led her to career success.
"I didn't know he was Carly's father until you called, so I find it fascinating," Kenneth Gormley, who wrote the definitive book on the Starr investigation, told the Post. "The world of Washington reinvents itself in new generations, but it's many of the same cast of characters. It's amazing how these things keep linking themselves together."
Gormley said he did not believe Sneed's recommendation of Starr was politically motivated.
"This is not a person who was out to do a political hatchet job. [Sneed] was a very conservative Republican judge, no question about it… but he was not a political operative," Gormley told the Post.
"They were looking for someone to get to the bottom of this. For him, it wasn't about getting Clinton, it was about getting someone to do a thorough investigation. I did not detect a super political person with an agenda."
